Break

I regret to inform that I will be taking a small break from Les Temps Nouveaux.  My life has been CRAZY with work, school, and all the happenings of the holidays right now.  I will be posting, but will not continue Tuesday Tips until my life has some kind of regularity.  Thanks for following and feel free to contact me with any questions! Love, Mary

Tuesday Tip!

I fell upon these You Tube channels a while back and I love them.  The Luxy sisters are two young entrepreneurs that started their own hair extension line.  They have a hair channel with different styling options and tips.  They also have a beauty channel that had makeup tutorials and outfits of the day.  Check them out!  Their extension line can be found HERE.

Tuesday Tip!

Halloween is right around the corner!  I usually don't pick my outfit out until the day of but this year my costume may involve silver face paint and aluminum foil (brownie points for anyone who can guess what I may be!)  Here are some make up ideas for pretty and scary halloween make up!

I <3 Lichtenstein. Pop Art make up #halloween
Pop Art....COMPLETELY AWESOME!  May be time consuming.  Check out a progression of make up application HERE.

Kitty cat Halloween make up

Cat....very cute!

zipper face

Zipper face.  Seriousy, going to give me nightmares but is actually pretty easy to do.  The basic idea is glue a zipper on your face, paint it flesh tone, then use a dark red lipstick to paint in the middle.  Add vaseline for the shine effect and done!

Beautiful fairy or mermaid make up.  This look uses silver glitter on the lids and rhinestones.

Tuesday Tip!

Many women think false eyelashes are for celebrities and broadway, but anyone can wear false eyelashes.  I love using them on brides to give a natural, but defined eye.  Here are a couple tips for application!

COLOR
If you wear warm tones and nudes, get brown natural looking lashes.  A good example of natural looking false eyelashes is Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron) on Glee.  She is using a half set (the outer lashes only), which gives a natural look of very flirty, long lashes.  If you want a bolder look or wear black eyeliner, buy black lashes.

COUNT
Lashes come in full sets, clumps, or individual lashes.  I would recommend the full set for beginners because individual lashes take time and skill to apply.

APPLICATION
1. Apply your eye makeup as normal, leaving your lash application for the last step.
2. Measure the lashes for your eye.  The lashes should start where your natural lashes begin and end half a centimeter or so before your natural lashes end.  If you put false lashes all the way to the end of your natural lashes, it creates a drooping effect.
3. Apply a THIN layer of eyelash glue (can be clear, black, or waterproof depending on your preference) to the eyelashes.
4. Place the eyelashes on top of your natural lashes as close to the lash line as possible. Hold in place for several seconds.
5.  Mascara is optional, but sometimes a coat after application can help blend your natural lashes with the false set.

VOILA!  Divalicious!

I buy most of my lashes from Sally Hansen, but they can be found at any beauty supply store.

Another Wedding!

Ok, so I am not racking in the bridal bookings, but I was very excited when Carol agreed to hiring me as her makeup artist for her wedding!  We were not able to do a consult due to distance, so I was a bit nervous about coming up with a plan.  As I sat in my bathroom and tried multiple looks out on myself, I had to keep reminding myself of my bride.  Carol was so laid back about the whole thing.  She didn't have any specific look she was requesting so I took my liberties.  I kept thinking natural! natural! natural!  Carol does not wear makeup on a regular basis, so false eyelashes and black eyeliner were not going to be in her look.  I settled on a look that was not too heavy and I let the eyeshadow do the work for me.  Picking an eyeshadow with a lot of different tones helps cut down on all the layering and shading needed to achieve the same look.  You can wear this color by itself, but it looks like several different shades.  An example is MAC eyeshadow in Woodwinked.  I also did a pink-based gloss to give a subtle look, but to also brighten up the eyes.  Success!! She seemed to really like it and she looked gorgeous!

The overall experience was relaxing.  I did her makeup upstairs next to a window, where we could overlook the setup that was taking place downstairs.  Its always nice to give the bride a little time away from the chaos.  I had so much fun at their wedding too!  It was a beautiful, small wedding at their gorgeous farm house overlooking fields of corn.  Amazing!

Beautiful Bride and Mother of Bride!
